Membership Categories

The ITIA welcomes translators and interpreters of all languages, areas of specialisation and levels of experience and has three categories of membership: Student, Associate, and Professional.

  • Student Membership is available to individuals currently taking undergraduate studies in any discipline or those undertaking postgraduate studies in translation or interpreting.
  • Associate Membership is available to holders of at least a level 7 qualification on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent in translation and/or interpreting and/or languages OR to holders of at least a level 7 qualification on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent in any other discipline together with two years relevant and documented  professional experience in translation and/or interpreting experience (proof is, for example, an indicative list of invoices or POs, contract if staff translator/interpreter)
  • Professional Membership is available to qualified translators and interpreters who pass the ITIA Professional Member examination AND who have (a) a primary degree or postgraduate qualification in translation and/or interpreting and at least three years professional experience OR (b) at least three years associate membership of the ITIA including at least three years documented professional experience since becoming an Associate Member.

Submitting an Application

Applications for Student and Associate Membership are accepted all year round.

Applications for Professional Membership are accepted once a year only, generally in November.

Membership of the Association is at the discretion of the ITIA Executive Committee.
The decision of the ITIA Executive Committee is final.
